Set in the coastal village of Rajnagar, 1999 delves into the lives of a myriad of villagers from the perspective of Nidhi, an elderly man grappling with poverty, a fractured family, and a troubled son. Following a catastrophic super cyclone that ravages the area, Nidhi mysteriously disappears and is presumed deceased. His son capitalizes on government compensation, but squanders it frivolously, unaware that Nidhi is alive but afflicted with amnesia upon his sudden return. As the truth looms, risking the sons imprisonment, he escapes, leaving a trail of deeper tragedy in his wake. Nidhi is eventually discovered lifeless, and solely his wife Mala holds the painful secret. Driven by love and silence, she resorts to drastic measures to shield her son from the grim reality, forever guarding the untold tale of her husbands demise.
